Do you aspire to one day move into the News Director’s office and drive the strategy yourself?  This job is the one you’ve waited for. 4 News Now in Spokane is looking for an Assistant News Director to join our experienced team of managers, to help lead a team of hungry, creative journalists. You’ll set the daily editorial strategy and work with broadcast and digital producers to execute that strategy across platforms. You’ll also join our hands-on, collaborative, experienced News Director in setting long-term strategy. Help with budgets, help recruit new talent and have the opportunity to coach and train both veteran and emerging journalists. We want to set you up to a lead a newsroom of your own the right way, while keeping perspective about a life outside of news.

What you’ll do:                          

• Work with producers, anchors and production team on visual and content execution of broadcasts
• Work with News Director on long-term newsroom strategy
• Assist News Director with budgets, recruiting and coaching
• Work with other station departments on sponsorships and promotions
• Directly supervise news reporters and weather anchors

What you’ll bring:

• At least 5 years of experience in a television newsroom with experience managing a team
• Track record of success in newsroom positions
• Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Communications, Journalism, or other related fields
• Desire to lead and coach others
• Extremely organized, strategic thinker
• Able to direct others – both above and below – on content and strategy
• Understanding of target audiences and metrics of success on TV and digital
• Clear understanding of journalism rules and laws as well as journalists’ rights to records and meetings
• Outside the box thinker
• Aspirations beyond the Assistant News Director position
