Madison Magazine, Madison’s premier lifestyle and business magazine and part of family-owned Morgan Murphy Media, seeks an Associate Editor to assist with writing, editing, and producing the magazine, strategic thinking, community engagement, and a wide range of multimedia projects. We are a dynamic, forward-thinking team of content creators and journalists who produce the area’s most prominent print source for all things Madison. We are looking for somebody who feels a connection with our city and its surrounding areas and is motivated by telling the stories of its people and other reader interest areas.

The ideal candidate will have proven writing, editing, and management skills. They must be flexible, creative, collaborative, extremely well organized, detail-driven, and comfortable working on multiple deadlines. We’re looking for an associate editor with excellent writing skills who has an eye for what makes good magazine journalism.

Qualifications for this role include a bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, or a related field. A minimum of three years of professional writing/editing experience is desired. Knowledge of the Madison community and key players is also helpful.

This job is for an in-office/at-home hybrid schedule. Applicants must live in the Madison area and be able to come into the office every week.

The Associate Editor will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following duties:

  • Oversee and write for Madison Magazine’s food section
  • Develop story ideas and source lists (especially for the food section)
  • Oversee and contribute to print and digital special projects and service pieces
  • Assist with other editorial stories
  • Contribute to production duties
  • Write and/or oversee monthly department page stories
  • Work with multiple freelance writers
  • Write copy for Madison Magazine’s food newsletter
  • Write monthly for madisonmagazine.com
  • Hire,train and oversee interns along with digital and promotions editor
  • Offer support at Madison Magazine events
  • Participate in subscription/marketing meetings and contribute to campaigns
