Weather/Reporter

March 7, 2022

News 3 Now/WISC-TV/Channel3000.com, Southern Wisconsin’s leading station and a digital source for news, is looking for a talented meteorologist or experienced on-air weathercaster who can convey weather information effectively.  The right candidate will contribute to our weekend weather coverage and deliver forecasts for television, digital and social audiences. During the week, this job will include fill-in weather forecasting and reporting on weather and science stories, as well as live weather reporting during severe and impactful weather. We place a priority on enterprise reporting, so knowing how to find and share stories of importance will be an asset.

News 3 Now produces more than 40 hours of television news a week, and we embrace coverage through our app, social, website, and streaming video channels resulting in a digital stronghold position in the market. The right candidate will innovate on all our digital and social channels. We expect our coverage to meet consumers where they are and connect with them in convenient ways.

You could do all of this while working for a family-owned company in one of America’s most livable cities. Madison is consistently ranked as one of the best places to raise a family, one of the best college sports towns, and one of the best places to live, period.

Meet Madison.

Since 1890, Morgan Murphy Media has been committed to quality journalism. We’ve been honored to win six national Edward R. Murrow Awards from the RTDNA in the past five years, including the top prize for overall excellence in 2020. We are searching for someone that also has an expectation of excellence.

What you’ll do:

  • Prepare and deliver urgent, compelling weather forecasts driven by impact to the consumer that connect with viewers across all platforms.
  • Aggressively handle severe weather coverage with a priority on clarity and urgency.
  • Turning enterprise weather stories regularly, including developing ideas, shooting, writing and editing. Our ideal candidate will be both skilled at working with a photographer and as a MMJ depending on the assignment.
  • Delivering engaging live reports, especially in breaking news and weather situations.
  • Innovating and experimenting with the latest technology in digital.  We’d love someone willing to share their ideas on how we can continue to be a leader in digital and social.
  • Building sources within our community and showing you know how to listen to the interests and needs of our viewers.

What you’ll bring:

  • An open mind and a passion for great journalism
  • Ability to swing tight deadlines
  • A valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • BA/BS in meteorology, or on-air weather experience
  • Experience in both weather forecasting and news reporting is a plus
